Deb Towle, team captain for the Dirigo Relay For Life Team (formerly known as the D.E.S. team) has been involved with Relay For Life for 16 years.
Her team might not be the largest relay team on the track, but it sure packs a punch in the fight against cancer. As a team captain, Deb is a member of the round table committee that is planning this year’s Relay For Life event. She and the other members have brought a lot of exciting ideas to the table.
Not only does team Dirigo participate in all event fundraisers, Deb and the other team members bring awareness about Relay For Life and the Battle against Cancer by hosting a mini Relay For Life for the students to participate in. This is such a powerful thing for the students as it gives them the sense of being part of the team and also the opportunity to ask questions about Relay For Life or Cancer in general.
There is also a beautiful bulletin board designed in the school. The teachers do fun events, like whoopee pie wars, cupcake challenges. Always bringing fun ways to fundraise to the school.
Their tent site is located by the flag pole at Hosmer Field and is always a fun place to visit. Team Dirigo has so much fun with their team theme. They are great sports that participate in all the track challenges. We have seen them have makeup applied by a person that was blindfolded.
Team Dirigo has helped with several area events when the community has a member battling against cancer. The staff is always there for the students, the families and the entire community.
They are a perfect example that you don’t have to be big to make a big impact in the fight against cancer.
