AUBURN — Lewiston/Auburn Community Little Theatre is calling for auditions for “Hairspray,” the hugely successful Broadway musical that won eight Tony Awards in 2003, including Best Musical. Audition dates are June 9 and 9 for adults, and June 15 for children in grades three through 6.
The musical inspired the major motion picture in 2007 with the same name. The show will be presented Aug. 8-17. Vincent Ratsavong, director/choreographer, has set the adult auditions for vocal and dance at 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, Monday, June 9, at Great Falls Performing Arts Center, 30 Academy St., Auburn. Call-backs will be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 11. This will be for vocal and cold-reads only.
The children’s audition is 6 p.m., Sunday, June 15, for those in grades three through six. The director is looking specifically for a small children’s ensemble and one supporting female role, Li’l Inez. Older children must attend the adult auditions.
Ratsavong says this musical is a huge song-and-dance show, with emphasis on the dance. Auditioners are advised to come prepared to dance and wear suitable dancewear and footwear. Please no sandals, crocs, boots, jeans, baggy or loose- fitting clothing.
For vocal auditions, please prepare 16-32 bars of a song from “Hairspray” for the part you’re interested in. If not from the show, bring sheet music from an up- tempo 1950s-60s standard. An accompanist will be provided. No acappella, please.
