Chair Yoga: (Mondays , June 9, 16, 23, 30; 9:30-10:30 a.m., Stillwater Ave., Orono ) The yoga instruction occurs seated in, or standing behind, a chair and is thought to strengthen the spine, improve balance, increase flexibility, and ease joint pain. $13 per class for Gateway Seniors. Tai Chi for Seniors. (Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 3 to June 26, 10 to 11a.m., Foster Room, New Balance Student Recreation Center, University of Maine, Orono, members: $40; nonmembers: $60) In collaboration with Gateway Seniors Without Walls. Tai Chi has been practiced in China for centuries for health and meditation and as a martial art. Research suggests the slow and gentle movements of Tai Chi lower blood pressure, strengthen the immune system and improve balance, reducing the likelihood of falls by up to 40%. Yarn Social. (Tuesdays, 1 to 2 p.m., June 3, 10, 17, 24, Orono Public Library) Yarn genius Robin Case of Yarn Barn provides guidance. Bring your own project (crocheting, cross-stitch, needlepoint, knitting) or learn something new.

Painting at the Wyeth. (Fridays, June 6, 13, 20, 27, Painting Studio, Wyeth Family Studio Art Center, University of Maine) Painters and would-be painters are invited to join us in the new, spacious Painting Studio. Free parking passes are available from Gateway Seniors Without Walls. Access to easels, tables, stools, chairs, rolling tables, lockers for supplies, racks for paintings. Guided Interpretive Trail Walk at Dirigo Pines. (Saturday, June 14, 10 to 11:30 a.m., Dirigo Pines Retirement Community) Bucky Owen, Wildlife Ecologist, leads. Meet at the sign for the Nature Trail on Dirigo Drive by the second pond, Dearborn Pond. Relatively easy trail; walking stick recommended for better footing on uneven ground.
