JAY — Spruce Mountain High School has announced the following activities for the week of May 29 to June 10:
Rob Taylor’s environmental science class toured Verso Paper Mill on Thursday, May 29. They held discussions with various mill resource professionals and heard about water quality, air quality, energy resources and forest resources.
The Spruce Mountain Envirothon Team has qualified for the State Finals in Augusta on Friday, May 30. The students took first place at the South West Regional on May 1 and qualified for the State Envirothon Finals.
Ken Landry and Aurelie Merrill, yearbook advisers, will host an assembly and yearbook dedication at 1 p.m. Friday, May 30. Yearbooks will be handed out to students who have prepurchased. There are some extra yearbooks that may be purchased for $55. This year’s yearbook editors are Kasey Richards and Heather Castonguay.
The Class of 2014 class marshals for graduations are Heather Castonguay and Adam Gettle. They will lead their classmates in for graduation.
Any student who needs or wants to make up credit this summer should stop by the guidance office as soon as possible to sign up.
Fine Arts Night will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, in the SMHS Cafeteria. Students will be recognized with awards in Band, Jazz Band, Art and Drama. Band and jazz band will perform two numbers each. There will be art on display, graphic and film will be shown and the theatre group will present a preview of “Scenes From a Porch,” their spring production. Parents and others are invited.
Spruce Mountain High School will honor the graduates from the Class of 2014 with a celebration on Thursday, June 5. The students and their parents are invited to attend at 5:30 p.m. in the SMHS gym for a barbecue of chicken, hamburgers and hot dogs.
Additional family members are welcome to join the banquet at 6:30 after dinner has been served. Seniors will be presented awards and scholarships.
Baccalaureate is a traditional and spiritual ceremony that helps put graduation in perspective. It will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 6, at St. Rose of Lima Church. Students are invited to participate in this independent activity.
Participating students must report to the parish hall no later than 6:30 in their caps and gowns. Graduates are asked to bring a flower of their choice to be placed in a vase together to create a class bouquet to be used at graduation.
The Class of 2014 graduation ceremonies will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 7, in the SMHS gym. Graduates will receive tickets for reserved seats on the floor. All other guests are welcome to sit in the bleachers and do not require a ticket.
Project Graduation will be at the Alfond Youth Center in Waterville. Graduates will leave directly following graduation and must stay all night. Student will return to school at 6 a.m. The night will include a large gym area to use all night, swimming, rock climbing, a laser tag arena, a bounce arena for jousting, jumping and boxing, music, food and drawings for prizes and gifts.
The athletes involved with baseball, softball, track and tennis will be recognized at a sports banquet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, in the SMHS gym.
Seniors will take final exams over the course of four days: Friday, May 30, Periods 1 & 2 Green Day; Monday, June 2, Periods 3 & 4 Black Day; Tuesday, June 3, Periods 3 & 4 Green Day; Wednesday, June 4, Periods 1 & 2 Black Day.

Wednesday, May 28, at 4:30 p.m., Varsity BB/SB Home vs. Telstar.
Thursday, May 29, at 2:30 p.m., Varsity Track MVC Championship at Cony High School; 4:30 p.m., JV BB at St. Dom’s; 4:30 p.m., JV SB at Telstar.
Friday, May 30, at 4:30 p.m., Varsity BB/SB at Boothbay; Varsity Boys/Girls Tennis Round of 40 at Colby College.
Saturday, May 31, Varsity Boys/Girls Tennis Top 16 at Colby College.
