1929 – 2014
AUBURN — Arthur Gilbert Jr., 85, of Lewiston, passed away on Monday, June 2, at the Androscoggin Hospice House with his family by his side.
He was born in Chicopee, Mass., on June 2, 1929, a son of Arthur and Rose (Turcotte) Gilbert Sr., and attended schools in Lewiston.
On Sept. 1, 1952, he married Lorraine G. Perreault.
Arthur worked for 31 years for Swift Independent in Augusta as a meat cutter and salesman, and later worked for Mailhot Sausage for eight years, until his retirement.
He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting and gardening. He also loved playing cards, traveling and casinos. He especially loved his bus trips with Jerome to the casinos.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Lorraine G. Gilbert, of Lewiston; his daughters, Carol Gilbert of Orlando, Fla., and Anne Marie Gilbert of Lewiston; his brother, Bert Gilbert, of Florida; his sisters, Jeannine Daigneault and Julie Ouellette and husband, Raymond, all of Lewiston; his future son-in-law, Quinn Royal; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister, Liane Burpee; and his brother, Larry Gilbert.
The family would like to thank Dr. Gordon and staff, Dr. Kaplan, Dr. Gallagher, Susan Bowie, the St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center ICU and the Androscoggin Hospice House for the wonderful care they provided Arthur.
