AVON — A Phillips woman was taken to a hospital by LifeFlight helicopter Saturday morning to a Lewiston hospital after her car went into the oncoming lane on Route 4 and struck a sport utility vehicle, police said.

Donna Rensoe, 42, of Phillips was traveling south when her car went around a corner and into the shoulder; she over-corrected and slid into the opposite lane, Maine State Trooper Jed Malcore said.

Rensoe’s 1998 Ford struck a 2007 Mazda driven by Jocelyn Plog, 27, of Avon, the trooper said.

Plog was not injured in the crash that was reported at about 7:50 a.m., Malcore said

Rensoe was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Both vehicles were destroyed. Route 4 was shut down for more than an hour.
