AUGUSTA — Voter turnout is expected to be light in Maine’s primary election this week.
Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap said that few competitive primary races will likely contribute to fairly low voter turnout on Tuesday. He says he’s estimating about 13 to 15 percent of eligible voters will make it to the polls.
But it’s hard to predict turnout, which depends on a variety of factors, including the weather.
The biggest draw on Tuesday will be the hotly contested 2nd Congressional District Republican and Democratic races. Emily Cain and Troy Jackson are squaring off on the Democratic ballot and Bruce Poliquin and Kevin Raye are battling for the Republican nomination.
Candidates running for the 1st District congressional seat, Senate and governor are uncontested in the primary.
