AUBURN — Four young people will represent Edward Little High School at Boys and Girls State this June.
The annual program is offered each year to students at the end of their junior year. The focus is on local and state government, voter participation and civic awareness. The program consists of small group presentations by guest speakers and simulations. It culminates in the election of a legislature and a governor.
Alexandra Flowers and Elizabeth LaRochelle will attend Girls State, run by the American Legion Auxiliary, at Husson College.
Alexandra is the daughter of Jack and Amy Flowers. She has been active on the speech and debate team at ELHS, going to nationals several times. She stage managed the one-act and has participated in other ELHS shows. A member of the show choir, she participated in the District Two competition. She served as class president in her freshman year.
Elizabeth is the daughter of Paul and Susan LaRochelle. She has been active in the drama program, doing sound for various productions. A member of the Chamber Choir, she also participated in the District Two event. She has been active in the student council affairs.
Jake Bazinet and Anthony Blasi will attend Boys State, run by the American Legion, at Thomas College.
Jake is the son of Brandon and Kristen Lyons. He has been on the ELHS cross-country team for three years. He has been the student representative to the School Board as well as the student representative on the Wellness Committee.
Anthony is the son of Anthony and Terri Blasi. A member of the swim team and the outdoor track teams, he was worked with the junior class student council and the PT Red Eddies.
All four young people participated in the recent “Take a Veteran to School Day” at ELHS. Elizabeth sang in the Chamber Choir which presented “Battle Hymn of the Republic”; Alexandra spoke on the Vietnam War; Jake spoke on the Iraq War; Anthony served as an usher who guided the incoming veterans to their seats and helped in the set-up of the gym.
