RUMFORD — The House of Peace is planning a fundraising event at 6 p.m. Friday, June 13, at Mountain Valley Middle School. There will be entertainment, raffles and fun.
Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for under 12.
The House of Peace was started by a personal survivor of abuse in 2005 when Sharon and Ted Walker saw the need for a safe and secure place for women and their children who were dealing with domestic abuse.
It is a faith-based nonprofit organization that provides outreach, advocacy and housing to battered women and their children. Many women leave behind everything they own just to escape. The organization provides clothing, bedding, medicine, diapers, toiletries and food and shelter.
The mission of the House of Peace is to assist female victims of domestic violence and their children by establishing and maintaining a facility that will provide temporary shelter in a safe environment while offering life coaching.
In 2010 the House of Peace incorporated and in 2011 relocated to the present facility. It needs the help of the community.
