DIXFIELD — RSU 10 voters approved a $36.2 million operating budget Tuesday by a nearly 2-1 majority.

The final unofficial numbers are 935-484 for 11 of the 12 district towns. Hanover’s numbers were not available.

“We are very happy that the voters of RSU 10 have provided us their support,” Superintendent Craig King said Wednesday. “Now that we’ve finished that, we’ll reorganize the district with fewer staff.”

To reach the $36.2 million budget, 44 full- and part-time positions were eliminated, along with closure of the former Dixfield Elementary School, which recently served as the site for the Central Offices, Wellness Center and several classrooms for adjacent Dirigo High School. Recent board action retained space for the Wellness Center for a year.

About $150,000 was cut from sports and non-sports programs, administrators agreed to a pay freeze, several stipend positions were eliminated, summer school wages were reduced, as were funds for technology hardware and software.

There was a $1.1 million reduction in state aid and about $1.6 million in contractual agreements.
