1928 – 2014

Lorraine M. Gallagher, 86, a 40-plus-year resident of South Portland and previously of Lewiston, died Tuesday, May 10, in Annapolis, Md.

Born Feb. 5, 1928, Lorraine attended high school in Lewiston. After graduation, she worked for Justice Delahanty in Lewiston, then at Peoples United Methodist Church in South Portland. Later, she was employed as a legal secretary for Perkins, Thompson and Keddy. She was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Maryland and also Holy Cross Catholic Church in South Portland.

She was an artist who enjoyed painting; she loved walking and spending time at the beach.

Lorraine is survived by her husband, William F. Gallagher, whom she married Nov. 6, 1993; two sons, James and wife, Darlene, of Gray, and Marc LaFontaine of South Portland; daughter, Lisa Stiffler of Standish; five grandchildren, Audra Wimert, Melissa Daigle, Jamie Metivier, Emily Stiffler and Megan LaFontaine; and three great-grandchildren, Noelle, Asher and Willow. She is also survived by her extended family, Tom and Cindi Gallagher of Severna Park, Md., Roger and Judy Gruel of Clarksville, Md., John and Cathy Gallagher of Bowie, Md., and their families.

Lorraine was predeceased by her former spouse, Arthur LaFontaine, whom she married in 1950 and who died October 1981.
