FARMINGTON — The Farmington Recreation Department is offering a variety of summer youth programs, including three new ones. 

Registration for most programs begins Monday, June 16, at the Community Center on Middle street. The offerings are:

* Intro to Field Hockey is a new program for ages 9 to 11 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 8-24. It will teach the basic rules and team strategies while emphasizing skills.

* Backyard Sports Camp for ages 7 to 10 who are entering grades 4 to 6 will take place Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 29 to Aug. 7, at Hippach Field. Sports such as kickball, flag football, lacrosse, pickleball, frisbee golf and waffle ball will be offered.

* Creative Things and Stuff Monster Workshop is a new program for ages 8 to 12. It will be held Aug. 12, 13 and 14 at the Community Center to introduces a creative process and a conceptual understanding of objects.

* Swim programs for toddlers to youths up to age 18 are planned. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Monday, June 16, and continues Tuesday and Wednesday, June 17 and 18.

* Hippach Field Playground features structured activities and free play opportunities for ages 7 to 10. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 23 to Aug. 15, at the Hippach Field Playhouse. Farmington children only may register starting at 4 p.m. Monday at the Community Center. On Tuesday, starting at 9 a.m., vacancies may be filled by other residents and nonresidents.

* A Mountain Bike Challenge for ages 12-18 will take place June 30 to July 3 with Greg Veayo. Registration begins Monday, June 16.

*  A Youth Self Defense program for ages 7 to 12 will be held Wednesdays, June 25 to Aug. 6, at the Community Center.

* Supervised Fishing for ages 6-10 will be held July 3 at Rollo Pond on the campus of the University of Maine at Farmington. Enrollment is limited to six first-time participants.

* Tennis instruction for ages 7 to 12 will be held July 8-24 and July 29-Aug. 14.

* Elementary Lacrosse for ages 9 to 12 will take place Mondays and Wednesdays, July 7-23, at Hippach Field.

* Play Ball for beginners ages 6 to 9 will take place July 7-23 at Hippach field. The program helps develop skills in either softball or baseball.

*  A preseason soccer camp for ages 6 to 12 will be held evenings Aug. 4-7 at Hippach Field. It will focus on skill development.
