NEWRY — Town Administrator Loretta Powers said Tuesday night that she hopes to have information together by the next selectmen meeting so they can set the tax rate.

At Tuesday night’s board meeting, she told selectmen the assessor will visit the Town Office on Wednesday morning to finish last-minute work on property assessments. She is also waiting for school assessment information.

“I hope to have the tax rate information ready for Monday, July 7,” Powers said.

That meeting starts at 5 p.m. in the Town Office. If it isn’t done then, it will have to wait to the board’s next meeting Tuesday, July 15.

Selectmen also learned that longtime Deputy Clerk Anita Clark tendered her resignation, effective June 26. Powers said Clark, who served Newry for 10 years, took a job with Maine Adaptive.

“She will be missed greatly,” Powers said.

In other business from Tuesday’s meeting:

* Work scheduled for Tuesday night on creating a job description for the town administrator position was tabled to the next meeting.

* The top part of the Bear River Grange Hall chimney has been repaired and the parking lot crack-sealing work by Rhino Seal was completed. Powers said she’s now waiting for an estimate to replace the furnace.

* Selectmen continue to discuss how best to handle Code Enforcement Officer David Bonney’s comp time. Powers said Bonney presented the board with a contract he created, but she said it needs to be tweaked before a decision can be reached.

* Two bids were received for work on Skiway and Monkey Brook roads, but an official wanted to review both before selectmen decide on a contractor. Bids were received from Pike Industries and Bruce A. Manzer Paving.

* Powers said engineering work continues on the town’s much larger road project. The project involves reconstructing a 1,200-foot section of the Sunday River Road in the Nordic Knoll Road and Letter S swimming hole area.
