WOODSTOCK — The Board of Selectmen tasked Town Manager Vern Maxfield this week with looking into purchasing the trailer and tent from the owner of a hot dog stand in Locke Mills.

Selectman Ron Deegan told Maxfield at Tuesday’s board meeting that he was informed by a resident that Duffy’s Dogs in Locke Mills was selling its trailer and a 20- by 40-foot tent for $8,500.

“I mean, the tent alone is probably worth $2,000,” Deegan told Maxfield. “To me, that’s a steal for the equipment we’d be getting.”

Selectman Stephen Bies replied, “When you said $8,500, I kind of took a step back. When you said it was going to be a steal, I was expecting something a little bit lower.”

Deegan suggested that Maxfield visit the trailer in Locke Mills and see if it’s worth purchasing.

“We could probably use the trailer and the tent for our 150th anniversary celebration next year,” Maxfield said. “I’m sure that our baseball field could use the trailer for their events as well. As for the tent, we could use that for any number of functions in town.”

In other business, the board voted 2-0 to donate $100 to the Bethel Outdoor Adventure and Campground for a scholarship to send a Woodstock child to its kayak camp for a week of recreation.

Maxfield said when it came time to decide which student would receive the $100 scholarship, he would make the decision, along with Jolene Littlehale, principal of Woodstock Elementary School.

Near the end of the meeting, Maxfield told selectmen that resident Carl Vee will perform music from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 5, at the gazebo on the town common.

“He’s been wanting to use the gazebo for a long time to host a concert, and he’s finally doing it,” Maxfield said. “I think it’s kind of neat. It’s the first time we’ve had a concert like this at the gazebo. If it goes well, there’s a good chance that we’ll continue to host concerts here.”
