Supt. Page of the Lewiston fire and police signal systems is up against a snag in complying with the mandates of the city council that the wooden poles carrying the over-head wires on Lisbon street be removed and the wires placed on the ornamental poles. The Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments will unveil the final version of a tourism plan for the western lakes and mountains regions Wednesday at Bates College. A year in the making, the plan contains strategies to address development, management and promotional opportunities in the region, which includes greater Lewiston-Auburn, Rangeley, the Carrabassett Valley, Oxford Hills and Sebago Lake. Paid for with money from the Maine Office of Tourism, the plans are intended to promote tourism in non-coastal sections of the state. The plan will be discussed by a 24-member Tourism Advisory Committee. The Committee, consisting of businesspeople, conservationists and public officials from around the region, has been working with AVCOG staff on the plan since last fall.
