G-NG Class of 1984 reunion

GRAY — Gray-New Gloucester High School Class of 1984 will hold its reunion on Saturday, July 12, at Cole Farms, upstairs banquet room.

The official reunion time is from 4 to 9 p.m., but guests can stay until 11. Dinner will be served at 7.

Music and a microphone will be provided.

The cost is $25 per person. Make checks or money orders payable to “GNG Class of 84 Reunion”; it is very important that they are made out in this manner, and do not send cash. Mail to Rick Haas, PO Box 503, Raymond ME 04071.

Komen Race for the Cure volunteers

PORTLAND — Volunteers are needed for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5K on Sept. 14.

Humane Society saving 822 animals

BATH/BRUNSWICK — Coastal Humane Society staff and volunteers have pledged to rescue 822 animals this summer as part of the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100,000 Challenge.

Both locations  are participating: 190 Pleasant St., Brunswick, and 30 Range Road, Bath.

The Coastal Humane Society is the only shelter in New England to compete in the fifth and final Rachael Ray ASPCA Challenge. Between June 1 and Aug. 31, Coastal Humane will attempt to find homes for 822 dogs and cats, which is double the number of animals Coastal Humane adopted out last summer.

Coastal Humane is eligible to win $10,000 to $100,000 in grant money.

Lower Falls in N.H. closed into Nov.

CAMPTON, N.H. — The Lower Falls Recreation site along the Kancamagus Scenic Byway is closed from June 16 through mid-November. The restoration project will improve public safety, enhance the recreation experience and minimize visitor impacts to resources in the area.

Alzheimer’s conference

SOUTH PORTLAND — The Alzheimer’s Association Maine Chapter will host the 2014 Statewide Educational Conference from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Friday, June 27, at the Portland Marriot at Sable Oaks.

Registration fee is $45 per person and includes lunch. Registration fee for professionals is $95 and includes six contact hours. Scholarships are available for family caregivers.

The conference will feature nationally recognized dementia care and education specialist Teepa Snow.

It also will include a research update by Sarah Hallen, M.D., in the afternoon and a luncheon panel discussion with caregivers of people with dementia.

Workshops will be held.

‘Swing for students’ golf tourney

LITCHFIELD — RSU2 wants you to “swing for students” at their first golf tournament at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 28, at The Meadows Golf Club.

The cost is $60 per person or $240 per foursome and includes green fees, cart rental, lunch and prizes. Players may also buy into additional challenges for the longest drive, the longest drive with a putter and closest shot to the pin.

Hole-in-one opportunities include a chance to win a Chevy Cruze, three-night golf vacations and a $500 shopping spree for Travis Matthew clothing.

YoUMA Summer Scholar Program

AUGUSTA — The University of Maine at Augusta is accepting registration for the 2014 YoUMA Summer Scholar Program, offered July 21-25 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at the University of Maine at Augusta.

The program offers college credit to high school students, including entering freshmen, through a week-long summer program that provides hands-on academic and social experiences in a college environment.

This year’s offerings include courses in architecture, rocketry, novel writing, acting and Photoshop.

Registration is $270, which includes light breakfast and full lunch each day. Merit-based scholarships are available through an application process.
