1920 – 2014
LEWISTON — Cecile A. Boutin Beland, 93, of Lewiston and formerly of Old Orchard Beach, passed away at St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion on Friday, June 20, of congestive heart failure.
Cecile was born in Auburn in 1920, one of six children born to Jacques and Alexina Boutin. She attended St. Louis School and Walton School, and received her certificate of high school equivalency. She worked at the Pepperell Mill in Lewiston and with her husband, Amedee “Medi” Beland, owned Seaward Inn in Old Orchard Beach and later Redwood Motel on Lisbon Road in Lewiston.
Cecile and Medi were active in the ice skating community of Lewiston-Auburn. They were members of the Skating Club and Medi was well-known in the hockey community.
In 1979, Cecile and Medi retired to Old Orchard Beach, where he died in 1980. In Old Orchard, Cecile was a member of St. Margaret’s Church, where she sang in the choir. In 2005, she moved to Ocean Pines, Md., to live with her daughter, Linda Beland Powers. Cecile returned to Maine in 2013, when she moved to Montello Heights in Lewiston.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Powers, of Ocean Pines, Md.; one sister, Constance David, of South Paris; four grandchildren, Tracey Goltz and her husband, Daniel, of Viroqua, Wis., Audrey Powers of Seattle, Wash., Shane Powers of Columbia, Md., and Kathleen Powers of Bethesda, Md.; two great-grandchildren, Genesee and Hazel; and several nieces and nephews.
Cecile was predeceased by her husband, Medi; and her son, Raymond, who died in 1968 while a student at St. Peter’s School. She was also predeceased by her two brothers, Alcide and Philippe Boutin; and two sisters, Mary L’Heureux and Jacqueline Bilodeau.
