LISBON — Resident Bishop Sudarshana Devadhar, of the New England Conference of the United Methodist Church, will visit Lisbon on Thursday, June 26, for the dual purposes of visiting with the Lisbon United Methodist Church congregation and the refugee farming program at the Packard-Littlefield Farm.
Devadhar presides over 600 churches in New England. He embraces diversity and leads the church with joy and compassion. He is intrigued by the ethnically diverse organic vegetable training program that is now in its ninth year at the Packard-Littlefield Farm. Devadhar and delegation will tour the greenhouses, gardens and learn the life backgrounds of several refugees.
A program will include the professional staff explaining the multifaceted training program, personal testimony by several refugees explaining their journey to the United States, why they like farming, experiences in the sales of their produce and favorite ethnic foods. A hay ride will also feature a visit to the 200-year-old pine and hemlock tree growth stand permanently protected by a conservation easement at the farm.
From 5 to 7 p.m. the Lisbon Methodist congregation will enjoy a potluck supper at which time the Bishop will have some informal comments followed by a musical program.
