DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have an ad in the lost-and-found section of the classifieds, but more people read Sun Spots, so can you print this?

I lost a very special ladybug pin either at the Auburn Mall or the Lewiston Hannaford. There is a reward.

Thank you so much for all you do. — D.G., 783-6919

ANSWER: How could Sun Spots resist this request with such a nice compliment?

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have dolls from my childhood that are more than 50 years old. I’m looking for someone or an organization that would repair and make new clothes for them to donate to an organization that could find new homes for them. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. — Karen Renard, Poland, [email protected]

ANSWER: Sun Spots’ first thought upon reading your letter was the Woman’s Literary Union, which often features dolls at events and in displays at its historic Foss Mansion headquarters, including at annual mother-daughter-doll teas.

Sun Spots emailed a query and heard the following from Kathy Lawrence, the house chairwoman:

“We, the Woman’s Literary Union, would like to accept those dolls. We will fix them and members who are seamstresses will make clothes for them. And then depending on final condition, we’ll sell or give away at our spring doll tea. Thanks.”

She said you can reach her at [email protected] and if you meet her at the mansion, which is at 19 Elm St. in Auburn, she will give you a tour.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In response to the June 5 request from the woman searching for housekeeping, I have been cleaning homes and offices in the area for 10 years. I have reasonable rates and references. Thank you. — Susie Crossley, Lewiston, 783-7785

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you for your wonderful, helpful column. I am enclosing my recipe for strawberry-rhubarb jam. This recipe was given to me by a dear friend many years ago.

I have sometimes added fresh fruit, strawberries, blueberries, etc., to this this recipe, and it came out good.

To 4 cups cut-up rhubarb add 2½ to 3 cups sugar, depending on tartness of rhubarb. Let this combination set four to six hours or overnight. Then stir thoroughly and boil for 5 minutes.

Remove from heat and stir in one 4-ounce box of strawberry Jell-O. Stir well and put in jars. Seal and refrigerate, or can be frozen.

I have been making this for many years. — No Name, Greenwood

DEAR SUN SPOTS: This is the recipe for rhubarb jam I use all the time. I’m sure you will get many recipes like this.

Combine 5 cups rhubarb, 4 cups sugar and 1 cup of crushed pineapple. Let stand for 30 minutes. Bring to a boil and cook for 12 to 15 minutes.

Add one 4-ounce package of strawberry Jell-O. Stir and jar. — Rachel, Bethel

ANSWER: Sun Spots did not get that many recipes and none that included pineapple. She was surprised because it says on the Jell-O box not to use pineapple when adding fruit because it won’t set. Of course, jam is a far different consistency than Jell-O.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you for all your information everyday. I would like the gentleman that called me at 782-2236 or 577-9223 about a chair lift to call me back as I think I can help him. He has a broken back and a hard time to get around. Thank. — No Name via email
