OXFORD — The Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club raised more than $5,500 to support The Longest Day, the Alzheimer’s Association’s annual fundraiser, on June 21.

The event was one of thousands held across North America to honor the strength, passion and endurance of those facing the disease.

“This year, we raised almost as much money as last year. We are at $5,575,” organizer Pat Quinn said.

Scores of players from the Oxford Hills region, Lewiston-Auburn area and beyond played bridge throughout the day and evening.

Quinn said pizza was provided by Polly’s Variety in Oxford and The Outpost in Otisfield; ice tea and lemonade were donated by Walgreens. The lunches were provided by THE Lake Store, Ari’s, Hannaford’s and Daddio’s.

Other businesses supporting the cause were: Record Lumber, Charlie’s Toyota, Dr. Larry Farmer, Barry Allen Survey Co., Oxford Casino, Schiavi Enterprises, Speedway Inc., Paris Farmers Union, Crystal Spring Farm, Bessey Motors, Chandler Funeral Home, Norway Savings Bank, Thayer Trucking, Dow’s Law Office, Mainely Action Sports, Winner’s Circle, Cut Loose and Emerson Chevrolet.

Many local bridge players received donations from friends and relatives and the Oxford Recreation Department provided its center for the games at no charge.

Winners of the morning game were North-South first, Nancy Lenfest and Nancy Lindgren; second, Fred Letourneau and Les Buzzell; third, Rosemarie Goodwin and Luke Merry.

East-West first, Nancy Farmer and Richard Balian; tied for second and third, Neenie Kivus, David Lock, Lynne MacLeod and Peter Snell.

In the afternoon game, winners were: North-South first, Nancy Lenfest and Nancy Lindgren; second, Stephen Kolkhorst and Richard Verrill; third, Fred Donald and Jerry Divincenza.

East-West first, Hazel Glazier and Jim Krainin; second, Richard Balian and Pat Quinn; third, Nancy Farmer and Marta Clements.

Evening game winners were: first, Neenie Kivus and David Lock; second, Fred Letourneau and Les Buzzell; third, Rick Verrill and Steve Kolkhorst; fourth, Beverly St. Germain and Lorry Letourneau.
