Lobster luncheon in Monmouth

MONMOUTH — A lobster luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at Packard Activity Center under the United Church of Monmouth on Main Street.

The luncheon will feature many salads and side dishes.

The basic menu is lobster salad rolls and/or salads and side dishes. See prices below.

Besides lobster rolls, there will be chicken salad and melon, pastas and potato salads, corn relish and bean salads, quiches and baked beans, deviled eggs and Harvard beets, cole slaws and copper pennies, green pineapple jellied salad, applesauce jellied salad, spinach/strawberry salad; peas/bacon/cheese salad, fruit bowl and yogurt and granola.

All meals are served with hot and cold beverages and ‘grab-‘n-go’ cookie bags.

The cost for lobster and salads and side dishes is $14; for salads and side dishes, $8.

College planning working set

LEWISTON — The Maine Educational Opportunity Center will host free workshops titled Essentials of College Planning for adults 19 and over at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, and at 9 a.m. Wednesdays, July 16 and 30, at the Lewiston CareerCenter, 5 Mollison Way.

The interactive workshop outlines the four steps in the college process: admissions, financial aid, career planning and study skills. The workshop lasts approximately two to three hours. Preregistration is required.

Turner Library annual book sale

TURNER — The Turner Public Library will hold its annual book sale from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, July 4, and from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 5.

Thousands of books, an especially inviting children’s area and videos, CDs and DVDs will be available. Hardcovers $1, paperbacks 50 cents, and children’s books four for $1. Some books will be specially priced.

Declaration of Independence reading

NEW GLOUCESTER — The New Gloucester Historical Society will sponsor a public reading of the Declaration of Independence at 9 a.m. Friday, July 4, at the New Gloucester History Barn, Intervale Road (Route 231 behind the Town Hall).

All members of the public of any and all ages are invited to attend. There will also be a reading of the names of New Gloucester’s World War I veterans in honor of their service and the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the war.
