TURNER — A “Celebration of American Patriotism and Freedom” will take place Sunday, June 29, at the North Turner Union Presbyterian Church, 58 Howes Corner Road (Route 219). The service begins at 9 a.m.

A special ceremony to honor, recognize and express appreciation for all military service people and their families will be headlined by the Rev. Jeffrey Young, retired command chaplain, United States Intelligence and Security Command. He will be joined by American Legion Turner Post 111, with full color guard, music and gun salute. Turner Boy Scout Troop 178 also will participate in the ceremony.

“This is an opportunity for the community to show appreciation for the freedom we often take for granted and for the sacrifice our military families make for us every day. It’s a great, ‘family friendly’ way to ‘kick off’the July 4th holiday,” said the Rev. Lissa Bradford, pastor of the church.” Bradford said all active, inactive and retired military are invited to attend with family and friends, and are encouraged to wear their uniform.

Young returns to Maine from his home in Virginia to host this ceremony. Young was the pastor of the North Turner Union Presbyterian Church in the 1970s.

Music will be performed by Danny Camire, music director of the church. Camire is a Turner resident who has performed with local bands. Camire is an accomplished singer and songwriter.

He will be joined by vocalist Grace Bradford. Bradford is a 2014 graduate of Poland Regional High School. She will attend Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C., in the fall to pursue studies in music and performance. Bradford has been featured at the Good Theater in Portland and the Schoolhouse Arts Center in Sebago.
