NAPLES — Lake Region Community Theatre has announced that its summer musical will be “Annie.”

Director Mary Bastoni has cast more than 30 people ages eight and up in this play based on the comic strip character, Little Orphan Annie (played by Margaret MacLeod and Jordan Meier). Because there are so many talented orphans, Bastoni has double cast some roles in the show.

The fiery orphan’s story unfolds in New York City during the Great Depression. The young optimist is determined to find her parents, who abandoned her on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the despicable Miss Hannigan (Susie Mosca).

Annie’s hopeless situation takes a dramatic turn when she meets Oliver Warbucks (Craig Holden), his sweet secretary Grace (Teresa Dyer) and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

But watch out for Miss Hannigan’s evil brother, Rooster (Derrek Schrader) and his female accomplice, Lily (Savannah DeVoe).

Then there’s the beloved music including “Tomorrow,” “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile” and “Easy Street.” One of the best-loved musicals of all times, you’ll surely find yourself humming, singing or whistling these tunes for at least a week after attending the show.

“Annie” is based on the book by Thomas Meehan. With music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin, the musical is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.

The show dates are July 11-12 at 7:30 p.m., July 13 at 2 p.m., July 18-19 at 7:30 p.m. and July 20 at 2 p.m. All performances will be in the auditorium at Lake Region High School.

Tickets are $16/adults and $12/children 12 and under. They are available at Raymond Village Florist, Krainin Real Estate in Raymond, Naples Public Library, Hayes True Value Hardware, Bridgton Public Library, Books ‘n Things in Norway and Papa’s Floral in Fryeburg.
