PARIS — A Rumford man charged in December with distributing child pornography has been charged with violating the terms of bail. 

Jeremy Vashaw, 41, of Somerset Street was arrested June 27 after police received an anonymous tip that Vashaw was with a juvenile family member, according to Rumford police Chief Stacy Carter.

Vashaw was taken to the Oxford County Jail and later released on $1,000 bail, a jail administrator said.

Vashaw was originally set to appear in court on July 7 for a hearing on bail conditions, but that date has been rescheduled for Sept. 2. 

Vashaw is charged with one count of dissemination of sexually explicit material of persons under the age of 12, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. He is out of jail on $1,000 cash bail. 

According to bail documents, Vashaw was granted supervised contact with family members under the age of 18 during family gatherings and may seek employment where incidental contact with minors may occur. 

A judge denied him access to the Internet to check his bank account and pay online bills.

Last December, members of the State Police Computer Crimes Unit seized Vashaw’s computer, which police say contained hundreds of images of children under the age of 12. He has no prior criminal convictions.

A member of the Rumford Finance Committee, Vashaw was fired from his job as a banquet server at Sunday River Ski Resort when his employer learned of the arrest. 

A call to Dieter Kreckel, chairman of the Finance Committee, to inquire about Vashaw’s status on the committee was not returned Wednesday afternoon.

A police affidavit has yet to be submitted to the court clerk.
