1944 – 2014

PORTLAND—Albert L. Smith Sr., 70, of East Wilton, died Wednesday evening, July 2, at Maine Medical Center, Portland, surrounded by his family.

He was born May 13, 1944, in Lewiston, a son of Murray L. and Mary Clara (Parker) Smith. He was a graduate of Wilton Academy, Husson University in Bangor where he earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting and minored in business administration. Later, he attended the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.

On Sept. 13, 1974, he married Shannon Chase.

He worked his way up through the ranks as a patrol deputy, corporal, transport officer and transport supervisor and retired after 38 years of service on April 30, 2013. To date, he was the longest-working employee for the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.

Albert is survived by his devoted wife and best friend, Shannon, of East Wilton; their son, Albert Smith, Jr., “JR,” and his wife, Jaynelle, of Winthrop; their daughter, Amylynn Bibeau and her husband, Randall “Randy,” of Livermore;

one sister, Gloria Cushing of East Wilton; one brother, Stanley Smith and his wife, Helen, of Kennesaw, Ga.; five grandchildren, Shie and Jevin Smith of Winthrop, Beth Bubier and her husband, Chris Bubier, of Jay, Hunter and Corbin Bibeau of Livermore; brothers-in-law, Clifford Chase Jr. and his wife, Gayle, of Dryden, and Dwain Chase of Wilton; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Welch of Wilton and Montris Tyler and her husband, Calvin, of Jay; “surrogate children,” Steven Smith and Kathi Smith.

He was predeceased by a brother, Sheridan Smith; and brothers-in-law, Rick Cushing and Lauris Welch.
