Dance at American Legion Hall

PARIS — A dance with music by the Jones Dance Band will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, July 12, 19 and 26, at the American Legion Hall, Church Street.

Cost is $5.

Waterford Wilkins House breakfast

WATERFORD — The second in a series of four summer breakfasts will be held from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, in the Wilkins Community House at the foot of Plummer Hill Road next to the Waterford Congregational Church.

In its 61st year, the breakfast offers a menu of freshly baked muffins, scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon and sausage, doughnuts, coffee, orange juice and real Maine maple syrup.

The costs are $7 for adults, $4 for children ages 5 to 10, and free for children under 5.

Upcoming breakfast dates are July 30 and Aug. 13. The proceeds from the breakfasts contribute to the maintenance of the Wilkins Community House.

The indoor yard sale in the Wilkins House basement will be open from 7:30 to 11 a.m. on the days of the breakfasts. New items appear at each sale. Proceeds from the sale go to the Building Improvement Funds of the Wilkins House and the Waterford Congregational Church.

West Paris food pantry

WEST PARIS — The Neighborhood Niche Food Pantry will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, at West Paris Baptist Church, 15 Church St.

The pantry is open the first and third Tuesdays of each month. West Paris residents are invited to come once a month.

Spurrs Corner food pantry hours

OTISFIELD — The food pantry at Spurrs Corner Church, Route 121, will be open Tuesday, July 15, from 10 a.m. to noon.

The pantry is open to residents of Otisfield on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. For information call 583-4780 or 627-4329.

Otisfield community lunch, book swap

OTISFIELD — A free community lunch and book swap will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, at Community Hall, Route 121.

The menu is meatloaf, baked potatoes, green beans, cole slaw, chocolate pudding, cookies. Gluten-free option available.

Cooperatives topic at Norway forum

NORWAY — The Center for an Ecology Based Economy will host a talk on worker-owned cooperatives at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 17, at 447 Main St. A potluck supper will be served at 6.

Jonah Fertig will make a multi-media presentation and lead a discussion on exploring the cooperative business model. Information will be shared on the history of cooperatives in North America and ways that worker and producer cooperatives have asserted community control over food, energy, housing and transportation.

Participants will be invited to discuss the potential for creating cooperative businesses in the Western Foothills area related to CEBE’s mission of supporting economic development based on renewable resources. Two enterprises currently under consideration are a multi-purpose rental workshop or “maker space,” and a building collaborative.
