1921 – 2014

AUBURN — Edith Adelaide Taker, 93, of Auburn, passed away Monday, July 7, at her daughter’s home, with loved ones by her side.

She was born in Poland on June 9, 1921, the daughter of Isaiah and Ida Emery. She attended Poland schools, before marrying Robert S. Taker, of Mechanic Falls, on Oct. 23, 1937.

Edith worked as the postmistress of West Poland for many years. She also knit and crocheted professionally for Bernat Yarn, making sweaters for European boutiques.

Most importantly, however, she was a homemaker. She raised her five children, was her family’s seamstress, toy-maker, gardener, canner, chef, nurse and teacher. She continued these roles as she became a grandmother and great-grandmother, always taking care of her family. She passed on her talents to her daughter and her adoring granddaughters, who will keep her family traditions and recipes going for another generation.

Edith’s generosity, kindness, unconditional love and support were an inspiration. Her eyes lit up at the sight of her family members, and she would always greet them with a smile and a warm hug. She was adored by those who knew her and her teachings will be cherished. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
