METHUEN, Mass. — Sister Irene Rivard, 94, passed away Friday, June 27, at Saint Claire Residence of the Presentation of Mary in Methuen, Mass.

Born in Lewiston on June 1, 1920, she was the ninth of 10 children of Charles J. and Anna (Dumont) Rivard. Sister Irene became a member of the Presentation of Mary Sister of Methuen Providence on July 2, 1947, taking her religious name Sister Cecile-Anna and serving the order for 67 years.

She obtained her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Rivier College in New Hampshire. Her religious profession included teaching elementary classes in Augusta, Saco, Biddeford, Lisbon, Westbrook and Caribou. She served as superior and principal from 1963 to 1994. Sister also taught mathematics and French at the Presentation of Mary Academy School for Girls in Methuen, Mass.

In 1994, due to illness, she came to live at Saint Claire Residence. She was known for her joy, her laughter and her leadership.

Ma Tante is survived by nieces and nephews, including Anita (Rodrigue) Leblanc, Tina (Favreau) Wells, Ray Rivard, Bob Meservier and Don, Gerry, Rick and Danny Favreau.
