EVANSTON, Ill. — High school students from Paris and Readfield are among the recent winners of National Merit Scholarships.
Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School student Kieran H. Sadler of Paris was given a $2,500 scholarship for his study of chemical engineering. The award was sponsored by by Tufts University.
Maranacook Community School student Nicholas D. Barnes of Readfield received a $2,500 scholarship sponsored by Bowdoin College. Barnes intends to study for a career in health care.
National Merit Scholarship winners are the finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success in rigorous college studies.
The scholars were selected by a committee of college admissions of?cers and high school counselors, who appraised information submitted by both the finalists and their high schools.
Scholars may use their awards at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university.
