For the longest time, I wondered why Elton John was so smitten with the star of “Who’s the Boss.” After all, in one of his biggest hits Elton sings: “Hold me closer, Tony Danza . . .”
I mean, doesn’t he?
I’ve been mishearing song lyrics for so long, I no longer remember what’s right and what’s wrong. In “Dust in the Wind,” does Kansas not sing “nothing lasts forever but the Windex shine?” Does that beloved spiritual song go “Michael row the boat ashore” or “My goat knows the bowling score?” And you’re telling me Jimi Hendrix didn’t sing “Excuse me while I kiss this guy” in “Purple Haze”?
It’s all very confusing. If you have misheard lyrics in a similar way, we’d like to hear all about it, even if you have to sing it to us. Contact Staff Writer Mark LaFlamme at [email protected]
