1949 – 2014

NORTH MONMOUTH — Dean Graves, 64, a resident of North Monmouth, died Saturday, July 19, at his residence.

He was born on July 28, 1949, in Wichita, Kan., the son of Donald Graves and Opal (White) Graves Jones. He attended Wichita High School North. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne Division.

On Sept. 18, 1979, he married Carla King; she passed away on Nov. 11, 2004. Dean and Carla moved to Maine and made their home in North Monmouth.

Dean graduated from Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute in Auburn with an associate degree. He worked as an architect designer and master builder, and took early medical retirement from Cives Steele Co.

Dean enjoyed photography, bird-watching and gardening, and took great pride in his flower gardens.

He is survived by his parents, Opal and Millard Jones, and his sister, Cheri White, all of Wichita, Kan.; two nephews, Mark White Jr. of Vista, Calif., and Matthew White of Wichita, Kan.; two great-nephews; two great-nieces; a sister-in-law, Sheila Sanford, of North Monmouth; as well as many friends and relatives, both in Maine and Wichita.
