1923 – 2014

RUMFORD — George Arthur Scott Sr., 91, of Roxbury Road in Mexico, died Tuesday, July 22, at Rumford Hospital.

He was born in Mexico on May 3, 1923, a son of James and Mary (Crawford) Scott, and was a high school graduate. George worked at Oxford Paper Co. from 1941 until retirement from Boise Cascade Paper Co. in 1985.

During World War II, he served as a private first class in the U.S. Army, Company G, 254th Infantry Regiment, including overseas in the Rhineland and in Central Europe, and received the Bronze Star.

He was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior, St. Athanasius-St. John Church, and a member Swasey-Torrey Post No. 100, American Legion, where he worked on beano and walked in many parades.

He was married in Rumford on Sept. 20, 1941, to Cecilea M. T. Jolin, who died in Rumford on July 17, 2009.

Survivors include three sons, James Scott of Dixfield, Daniel Scott and wife, Patty, of Ayer, Mass., and Dennis Scott of Madeira Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Gloria and husband, Al Pomerleau Sr., of Rumford and Denise Blackman of Mexico; daughter-in-law, Louise Scott, of Dixfield; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Elwin Scott and wife, Verna, of Yarmouth; sisters, Marion LaBrecque of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Beverly Janace and husband, John, of Falmouth; and a sister-in-law, Marjorie Scott, of Rumford.

He was predeceased by his parents; infant daughter, Susan Jane; daughter, Sandra Scott; son, George A. Scott Jr.; sister and brother-in-law, Lena and Osie Hill; and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Reggie and Arlene Scott and Willard and Francis Scott.
