WATERVILLE (AP) — Multiple people are calling Waterville police to report that they have seen a bear wandering through the city of nearly 16,000.

The Morning Sentinel (http://bit.ly/WEvWwC ) reported the bear has been seen near residential neighborhoods. City Police Chief Joseph Massey told the paper the first sighting came in at 5 a.m. on Monday on Pleasantdale Avenue.

A wildlife expert told the Morning Sentinel that residents should make any sources of food on their properties inaccessible to bears. The bear is then likely to wander back outside the city and forage for food in the wild.

Waterville is the eleventh-largest city in Maine, located about 20 miles north of Augusta.
