JAY — About 40 calls from Jay Village Water District customers were answered by Town Office staff on Friday and Monday when a water line broke on Smith Avenue.

The town has nothing to do with the district or the North Jay Water District in Jay. The districts are separate entities.

The Town Office staff was asked by callers if there was something wrong with the water, if the story on the boil-water order affected them, or if the boil order was still in effect.

They didn’t have the answers to the questions.

“There seems to be a wide misconception that the Jay Village Water District or the North Jay Water District are town-run entities,” Ron Moreau, the treasurer for both districts said. “The fact is that these two water districts are quasi-municipalities that are run by a Board of Trustees and are not affiliated with the town.”

Questions should only be directed to the water office at 645-2812, or in the case of an emergency, customers should call the superintendent for both districts, Mike Wells, at 578-1528.
