SOUTH PARIS — James W. Black, 89, of South Paris, passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 29.

He was born in Bayonne, N.J., on March 1, 1925, a son of William and Agnes Disbrow Black. He graduated from Bayonne High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was a Purple Heart recipient.

He married Helen Tevis on July 3, 1948. He was employed as a fireman for the Jersey City Fire Department for many years.

James is survived by his daughter, Patricia Black Gould and her husband, Patrick, of Farmingdale; his son, Jim Black, of New Hampshire; a grandson, Zachary Littlefield; adopted grandchildren, Katie Federico, Abigail Creps, Emily LaVine and Christopher LaVine; great-grandchildren, MacKenzie and MaKayla Federico; his brother, William Black; and his sister, Reenie Muse.

He was predeceased by his wife on June 20, 2003.
