PERU — A local woman was killed Thursday morning when her mother accidentally ran over the woman while backing up a car.
Lt. Brian Landis of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office said Linda White, 57, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her mother, Maxine Brown, 77, ran her over in the driveway of their residence on Ridge Road, he said. White was pinned under the vehicle, police said.
“Early Thursday morning, we received word that the mother mistakenly, unintentionally and tragically ran her daughter over while backing up her vehicle,” Landis said. “It’s just a tragic, tragic accident.”
“The investigation is still ongoing, but there’s nothing so far that has revealed that this was anything more than an unintentional accident,” Landis said.
Fire departments from Dixfield, Peru and Rumford assisted the Sheriff’s Office in the investigation, while Med-Care Ambulance responded to the scene, Landis said.
