Reunion of Keen descendants

SUMNER — Meet and greet the descendants of John and Martha Keen and celebrate the 89th annual reunion at A Wrinkle in Thyme Farm from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10.

A potluck lunch will take place at noon, followed by a visit to the pond at 3 p.m. Bring your whole family, a dish to share, and swimsuits, towels and lawn chairs for the pond.

There will be hand-crank ice cream, time to visit, outside activities for kids including the barn swing, and sheep, the horse and chickens to enjoy.

AARP chapter annual outing Aug. 11

WEST PARIS — The Oxford Hills Chapter of AARP will meet on Monday, Aug. 11, for its annual summer outing.

Shadagee Ramblers at supper dance

LOCKE MILLS — A supper dance will be held from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, at the American Legion Hall. Doors open at 4.

Music by the Shadagee Ramblers.

Menu is casseroles, salads, veggies, breads and pies. Supper, $7; dance and supper, $10; child, $3.

WATERFORD — The last in a series of four Waterford Summer Breakfasts will be held from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at the Wilkins Community House next to the Congregational Church on Plummer Hill Road.

The full breakfast menu includes scrambled eggs, pancakes with real Maine maple syrup, bacon, sausage, doughnuts, freshly baked muffins, orange juice, coffee and tea. Cost is $7 for adults, $4 for children ages 5 to 10, children under 5 are free.

Visit the Wilkins House Basement Yard Sale between 7:30 and 11 a.m. on Aug. 14. New items appear at each of the sales. Proceeds from the sale go to the Building Improvement Funds of the Wilkins House and the Waterford Congregational Church.

Technology Petting Zoo at library

NORWAY — Curious about the latest devices? Not sure which e-reader or tablet is right for you?

Come to Norway Memorial Library from Aug. 14-22 for a Technology Petting Zoo provided by the Maine State Library.

Jared Ledbetter, technology consultant at the Maine State Library, will provide an overview of all the devices in the petting zoo for the public at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14.

A technology petting zoo is a collection of e-reader and tablet devices, available for the public to try out and discover how they can be used to download reading and other materials from public libraries. It consists of six of the most popular personal technology devices on the market today: Nook SimpleTouch, Kindle Fire, Kindle PaperWhite, Apple iPad Mini, Nook HD+ and Google Nexus.

Deering Memorial free breakfasts

PARIS — Deering Memorial United Methodist Church will host free community breakfasts from 8 to 9 a.m. each Sunday.

The menu changes weekly with some of the most popular items being baked stuffed French toast, homemade cinnamon rolls, egg casseroles, home fries and pancakes. There is always cereal, toast, coffee, juice and fruit.

Organizers welcome help or donations of breakfast supplies. A free-will offering is available for anyone wishing to donate toward the cost of the breakfast.

Rotary’s lobster, steak fest is Aug. 16

NORWAY — The Oxford Hills Rotary Club will hold its 28th annual Lobster & Steak Fest from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, ‘under the tents’ at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.

Ticket holders can enjoy a lobster or steak, clams, French fries, corn on the cob, watermelon and a beverage. Tickets in advance are $20 per person or $25 the day of the event. Cooked take-out meals are also available.

Live entertainment will be the ‘Just Us Two’ band.

AARP Smart Driver course

BRIDGTON — The new AARP Smart Driver course for drivers age 50 and older will be presented from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Bridgton Community Center, 15 Depot St.

Advance registration no later than Aug. 30 is requested as class size is limited. To register, call the Bridgton Community Center at 647-3116. The registration fee is $15 for AARP members, $20 for others.

This is a classroom refresher course for experienced and mature drivers. The class helps older drivers adjust their driving to age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time. Drivers in Maine 55 years of age and older are entitled to discounts on their insurance premiums for three years after taking or retaking this course. There are no written tests.
