BALLOON LAUNCHES

Launches are scheduled for 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., though actual launch times may vary depending on weather conditions. This is the time of day when the winds are calmest and the air the most stable. While the balloons are an integral part of the Festival, organizers will always err on the side of safety. Even though weather at the field may appear desirable, a launch may be canceled if wind, rain or lightning are in the area.

During a launch/flight, please give the chase vehicles the right of way when they are entering and exiting a launch site or landing site. Spectators may be asked to relocate so that balloon vehicles may enter and exit the field safely. Be careful not to step on the fabric of the balloon envelope when the balloons are on the ground.

PARKING

Parking for the festival is available in the downtown area and in several lots adjacent to the festival grounds (around the Bates Mill and along Lincoln Street). The nonprofit groups manning these lots welcome your donations. The city of Lewiston has donated the use of these areas to our non-profit groups.

Handicap parking is available just over the bridge (inside the main gate) at Simard-Payne Memorial Park. The Auburn Municipal Parking Garage also has many handicap spaces.

SAFETY

Smoking: Simply put, smoking and propane don’t mix. Please don’t smoke on Festival grounds.

Pets: With the exception of service animals, pets are not allowed on Festival grounds.

Bikes, skates and boards: Because of the high level of foot-traffic throughout the grounds, no bikes, scooters, roller skates or skateboards are allowed.

Alcohol: Bringing alcohol onto Festival grounds is prohibited.

CHASING BALLOONS

Chasing balloons can be an exciting way to participate in the Festival. Keep your focus on the road if you spot a balloon while driving. Pull off to the side of the road to watch the balloon safely. When following a balloon, be careful not to drive or walk onto private property without the landowner’s permission.

LANDOWNER RELATIONS

We ask that everyone involved in the Festival, including spectators, volunteers and balloonists, be respectful of landowners’ rights and responsibilities.
