1936 – 2014

WILLINGTON, Conn. — Jacqueline (Gervais) Roy, 77, of Storrs, Conn., passed away Friday, Aug. 8, at her daughter’s home in Willington, Conn., surrounded by her loving family. She bravely faced her short journey with lung cancer.

She was born in Madawaska on Oct. 4, 1936, the daughter of the late Edward and Ida (Pelletier) Gervais. As one of 11 children, and the first daughter born after seven brothers, she was cherished by her parents and always surrounded by brothers who watched out for her in her early years.

At the age of 18, she met and fall in love with Normand J. Roy Sr., whom she married in Lewiston on July 30, 1955. They moved to Connecticut and raised five children, Deborah, Normand Jr., Diane, Cathy and Donna. After 30 years, she and Normand returned to Maine until Normand’s death on Oct. 25, 2011.She returned to Connecticut to be near her children until the time of her death.

Jacqueline worked for 33 years for Acromold Products formerly located in Rockville, Conn. While doing this, she managed to do the toughest job of all, raising her children, and always made them feel loved and cared for.

In addition to being a mother and wife, Jacqueline enjoyed many things, including gardening, yard work, going to tag sales, quilting and knitting. She enjoyed holidays with her family and visits with her sisters and brothers whether in Connecticut or Maine.

Jacqueline is survived by her children, whom she loved dearly, Deborah Roy Roberts and spouse, Peter, of Malaga, N.J., Normand Jr. Roy and spouse, Margaret, of Chaplin, Conn., Diane Roy of Hartford, N.Y., Cathy Roy of Willington, Conn., and Donna Roy-Ross of North Canaan, Conn.; her grandchildren, whom she dearly loved, Ben, Olivia, Jacky, Danielle, Joey, Mitchell, Corrine, Abigail and Meaghan. Jacqueline was one of two daughters and nine brothers. She is survived by her sister, Clemence and spouse, Lucien Nadeau; and brothers, Normand Gervais, Philip Gervais, Emery and spouse, Rita Gervais, Levite and spouse, Diane Gervais, Conrad and spouse, Lorriane Gervais, and Eloi and spouse, Lucy Gervais.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Kevin Roy; granddaughter, Cass Andrea Roberts; brothers, Angelo Gervais; Richard Gervais and Eugene Gervais.

The family would like to thank the kind and caring staff of St. Francis Cancer Center of Hartford, Conn., as well as Masonicare Hospice, who provided support to Jacqueline and her family.
