Thrifty Gift Shop holding sale

PARIS — The Thrifty Gift Shop reopened with a school sale on Thursday, Aug. 14.

Clothing items include name brands like American Eagle, Hollister and Aeropostale.

Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays.

The shop is at 659 Park St., South Paris, three miles north from Market Square.

Photos of school clothes and other items will be posted on their Facebook page on Aug. 14. Members can shop from home.

‘Famous’ chicken pie supper Aug. 16

BOLSTERS MILLS — The “famous” chicken pie supper will be held Saturday, Aug. 16, at Bolsters Mills United Methodist Church, Bolsters Mills Road, Bolsters Mills Village. Seatings are at 5 and 6 p.m., with a third to follow as needed.

Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children under the age of 12.

The building is handicap accessible and air conditioned.

Supper includes chicken pie, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetable, rolls, homemade dessert and beverages

WEST PARIS — The Neighborhood Niche Food Pantry will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at West Paris Baptist Church, 15 Church St.

The pantry is open the first and third Tuesdays of each month. West Paris residents are invited to come once a month.

Spurrs Corner food pantry hours

OTISFIELD — The food pantry at Spurrs Corner Church, Route 121, will be open Tuesday, Aug. 19, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Program: History of area poor farms

PARIS — At the monthly meeting of the Paris Cape Historical Society on Aug. 21, Jean Hankins will speak on the history of poor farms in Otisfield and other area towns. She will explain why they were started and why they ended.

Everyone is welcome to come and hear this history given by a knowledgeable person in many areas of local history.

The meeting will be held at the society’s museum at 77 High St. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. with a brief business meeting and conclude with refreshments. There is parking in the driveway of the museum and in the large parking lot at the back of the museum.

The society had a very successful day at Founder’s Day in July, since the weather was ideal and many people turned out for the occasion. All the items on sale at Founder’s Day are also available to purchase in the museum, which is open every Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. The public is welcome to visit and do research if desired.

“Whatever Sale” is Aug. 23

SUMNER — The West Sumner Universalist Church will hold the third annual “Whatever Sale” from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23. This event is a combination yard sale, bake sale, craft sale and offers a number of raffle items including a quilt.

Country Music Assoc. annual awards show

MECHANIC FALLS — The Down East Country Music Association will hold their 34th annual awards show on Sunday, Aug. 24, at the Silver Spur on Route 121. This is a day filled with entertainment and presentation of awards.

Admission at the door is $7 per person, $2 under 12 and for nonperforming competitors.

There will be a 50/50 drawing, raffles and food concession.

The 2014 Pioneer Awards will also be presented at this show.
