AUBURN — Central Maine Community College, in collaboration with Advocates for Children, will offer a “Responding to Child Abuse” course. This 45-hour comprehensive course will run for 13 weeks on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Sept. 9 through Dec. 16, at CMCC’s Auburn campus.
Working with children and youths who are victims of physical, sexual and emotional abuse and neglect can be overwhelming and confusing. This course will offer an opportunity to learn from professionals in their fields of expertise about how law enforcement, the judicial system, the medical community, foster care programs, sexual assault crisis professionals, domestic violence experts, the Department of Health and Human Services and Advocates for Children work to end the cycle of abuse in Androscoggin County.
The cost is $275 per person and includes all materials. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive 4.5 continuing education units. The deadline to register is Sept. 2.
“Responding to Child Abuse” will inform educators, child care personnel, social workers, guardians ad litem and other professionals working with children and families how they can contribute to the protection of children and youths.
