1933 – 2014

LEWISTON — Mary E. D’Amour, 81, of Sabattus, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 13.

She was born in Skowhegan on March 13, 1933. She spent the first nine years of her life in several foster homes in the Lewiston-Auburn area and then went “home” to her “mother and father,” Marie and Atlanta Vachon. Mary and her sister, Christine “Pinky,” worked on their small farm in Sabattus, until she graduated from high school.

Mary worked for several years at Bates Manufacturing, until she met the love of her life, Paul D’Amour, whom she married on Oct. 16, 1954. Mary then stayed home as a homemaker, raising their three children.

She loved to travel; she visited almost every state in the United States. She enjoyed playing cards, and had a very social life and lots of wonderful friends. Mary had a tremendous love of animals and their love for her was unconditional.

The neighborhood pets would come over to visit daily for treats and lots of love; the neighbors would even call Mary and ask her to send their pets home.

She was predeceased by her husband, Paul D’Amour; sisters, Marcia Moulin and Rita Phelan; a brother, Leon Vachon; and a brother-in-law, Raymond D’Amour.

The family would like to thank Dr. Pandey, aka “that’s my boy,” the staff at d’Youville Pavilion and the staff at Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.
