RUMFORD — A Mass of Christian Burial honoring the lives of Wilfred and Ella LaPlante was celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at Parish of the Holy Savior. The Rev. Alfred Jacques was the principal celebrant and concelebrating priests were the Rev. Greg Dube, the Rev. Yvon Barrieau and the Rev. Alphonse Richard.
Bernard Poirier was the altar server and Mark Belanger was the organist, accompanied by the choir. The opening hymn was “Blest Are They,” the Responsorial Psalm was “Shepherd Me O God” and the offertory hymn was “Eye Has Not Seen.” The communion hymns were “You Are Mine” and “Like A Child Rests.” The meditation song was “When It’s All Been Said and Done,” sung by their daughter, Gabrielle Laplante Dunn; daughters-in-law, Penny Laplante and Debbie Laplante; and accompanied by David Laplante on guitar. The recessional hymn was “Amazing Grace.”
The Old Testament was proclaimed by grandson, Christopher Laplante, and the New Testament was proclaimed by granddaughter, Melissa Gilbert. The Prayer of the Faithful was offered by grandson, Nicholas Dunn. Offertory gifts were presented by Jaime and Eric Arsenault and great-grandchildren, Aaron and Erica Arsenault. Personal reflections were shared by son, Richard Laplante, and grandson, Jon Dunn.
Committal prayers were offered by the Rev. Alfred Jacques at St. John Cemetery. Military honors were rendered by the Maine Funeral Honor Guard. Pallbearers were their sons Richard, David, John and Peter Laplante. A reception served by the Daughters of Isabella was held in the parish hall.
Services were under the care and guidance of S.G. Thibault Funeral Home, 250 Penobscot St., Rumford.
