RUMFORD — A Back to School Fashion Show will be held at Hope Association on Friday, Aug. 22.

Nostalgic toys at Bell Hill Meetinghouse
OTISFIELD — Did your childhood friends include Raggedy Ann, Betsey Wetsy or Teddy? Do you remember Twister? Did you and your friends while away long summer days playing Monopoly or Tripoley? And just how well can you handle the hula hoop and yo-yo?
From noon to 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, and also from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, you can once again indulge all these childhood passions by visiting the Bell Hill Meetinghouse at 191 Bell Hill Road, for the exhibit titled “A Century of Fun: Toys and Sports through the 20th Century.”
The Bell Hill Meetinghouse Association, sponsor of this nostalgic two-day exhibit, will display over 150 toys and sporting items inside the 1839 meetinghouse at the top of the hill. These beloved toys and sporting equipment cover each decade throughout the 20th century and will certainly make everyone feel young at heart.
There’s no admission charge, but donations to the Bell Hill Meetinghouse Association are always welcome.

Campground Band dance at Jay VFW
JAY — A dance will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at the VFW Hall, 64 Jewel St.
Music will be provided by the Campground Band.

Kora plans ride-in, lobster bake
TURNER — Kora Shrine, Lewiston, announces the third annual Kora Kare for Kids Ride-In. All net proceeds will benefit Shriners Hospital for Children. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 6, and will be bigger and better than ever with planned motorcycle rides, an ATV run, car club runs, a lobster bake and fireworks to end the day.
The day will start with breakfast and registration at L-A Harley (bikes), Bill Dodge Auto Group (cars) and Twitchell’s Airport Field (ATVs) from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Planned motorcycle and car runs will leave from L-A Harley and Bill Dodge. ATV rides will leave from Twitchell’s Airport Field. At the end of the run a drawing will be held for prizes.
The field at Twitchell’s Airport will be open from 1 to 8 p.m. Activities will include live bands, games, merchandise and food vendors, and a lobster bake at 5 p.m. The Maine Masonic CHIPS program will be there and during the day there will be Shriners Hospital for Children patient appearances. Dry camping is also available at no charge. The day will end with fireworks at dusk.

CNA course at SAD 52 Adult Ed
TURNER — MSAD 52 Adult & Community Education will hold a CNA Course starting Sept. 16. This 180-hour course was developed by the Maine State Board of Nursing to prepare students for a career in health care as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
It consists of classroom time, lab practice and clinical work in skilled nursing, long-term care and hospital settings. Time is spent on the aspects of caring for patients and residents, diseases and disease processes plus anatomy and physiology. Clinical hours allow students to practice what was learned in the classroom with actual hands-on experience.
Select from day or evening classes. An orientation be held on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 9:30 a.m. at the Adult Learning Center. Call the Adult Ed Office at 225-1010 or stop in at the Adult Learning Center, 486 Turner Center Road, to pick up an application.
Fourth Thursday Poetry Program
RUMFORD — Betsy Sholl, Maine’s Poet Laureate from 2006 to 2011, will read from her works at the Fourth Thursday Poetry Program on Thursday evening, Aug. 28, at the Rumford Library.
Sholl has published seven collections of poetry, including the prize-winning “Don’t Explain.” Sholl’s presentation is the first in the Rumford Library’s new guest poets readers series.
The program will run from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, call 364-3661.
