FARMINGTON — Roderick-Crosby American Legion Post 28 members are installing new windows at the hall at High and Middle streets.

Ten double-pane, energy-efficient windows are being installed under the direction of member Michael Fogg, Les Gatchell said Wednesday.

The windows are part of larger project that includes lowered ceilings with added insulation and new lighting to make the 1930 hall more energy efficient, he said.

“Our biggest expenses are fuel and electricity,” he said.

To help with the building fund, members will gather Saturday to wash cars for a donation.

The Support Our Veterans car wash takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 23 at Leon Heckbert’s Pro Service garage on Farmington Falls Road, Charlie Bennett said.

A previous car wash netted nearly $1,000 for the renovation fund. A recent lawn sale brought in another $1,500. Businesses were very supportive when Kenneth “Spider” Durrell visited and raised about $2,000, Gatchell said.

Eventually, members hope to renovate the bathrooms, making them wheelchair-accessible, he said.

The American Legion began in 1919 and has grown with posts in foreign countries, Bennett said. The charter denotes members as veterans who served during war time.

Members working on the hall Wednesday included Fogg, Joe Kempton, Peter Tracy, Dave Hall, Ron Smith, Bob Hallman, Spider Durrell, Bennett and Gatchell.
