Maine’s nine newest police canine teams graduated from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro on Friday, June 13. The officers and their dogs spent the previous 14 weeks at the State Police Canine School, training in a variety of conditions, weather and locations around the state. Three of the dog teams are from the state police and three others are from the Maine Department of Corrections. Shown is State Police Trooper Jonathan Russell and Gus, from Troop B in Gray. The other officers not pictured here and their new partners include Lisbon Police Officer Jason St. Pierre and Moxie, South Portland Police Officer Shane Stephenson and Zak and Presque Isle Police Officer Kevin Reed and Koda; from the Maine Department of Corrections are Corporal Robert Bowen and Kane of Warren, Corporal Richard Greene and TJ of Warren and Corporal Troy Hood and Gunner of Charleston; and from the Maine State Police are Trooper Justin Cooley and Bruin from Troop A in Alfred and Trooper Jarod Sylvia and Merry from Troop F in Houlton.
