RUMFORD — A West Paris man was charged Tuesday with striking a construction flagger at a paving site on Veterans Street, police Chief Stacy Carter said Tuesday afternoon in an email.

The flagger, Martin Lore, 28, of Rumford, was taken to Rumford Hospital and released, he said.

At 2:29 a.m., a 2015 Mack tractor-trailer truck driven by Linwood Scott, 56, turned left on Veterans Street from the NewPage parking lot and struck the flagger in a construction zone, Carter said. Lore was struck by the trailer.

Scott was issued a citation on a charge of failure to obey a public safety flagger. There was no damage.

Pike Industries of Fairfield, which was awarded a $2.8 million Maine Department of Transportation project to reclaim and pave three street locations in Rumford at night, started paving Veterans Street early Sunday morning.
