Local fourth-graders plant trees

LEWISTON — Maine’s Arbor Week was celebrated in May when fourth-grade students in Androscoggin County got to work in the dirt to plant a tree. Community Credit Union purchased trees and visited schools in the area, giving students the trees to plant.

The project is part of the Fourth-Grade Foresters Project, where the goal is to help revitalize the idea of Arbor Day in America’s schools. A total of 320 trees were delivered.

The following schools participated: Leeds Central School, Greene Central School, Washburn Elementary School, Auburn, Carrie Ricker Elementary School, Litchfield, Sabattus and Wales, and Turner Elementary School.
