1951 – 2014

WILTON — Jeff Mitchell, 63, of Farmington, died suddenly on Tuesday evening, Aug. 26, in Wilton.

He was born in Portland on June 14, 1951, a son of the late Dr. Chet and Betty (Henderson) Mitchell. He was a 1969 graduate of Mt. Blue High School and earned a degree in business administration from the University of Maine in Orono.

Jeff operated his own auto repair business and was an instructor of business administration and economics at the University of Maine at Farmington, before acquiring his real estate license in 1986, his broker’s license in 1987 and becoming one of the leading brokers in Franklin County as part-owner of Village Realty.

He was the longest continuously serving member of the Maine Real Estate Commission, having been first appointed by Gov. John McKernan in 1988. Jeff was past president of the Real Estate Education Association of Maine, the Tri-Valley United Way chairman in 1997 and served on the Farmington Board of Appeals, Advisory Committee and Ad Hoc Tax Committee. He was selected as his local board’s Realtor of the Year for 1997 and 2011. He was also a licensed pilot, a notary public and a member of Friends of Wilson Lake.

Jeff is survived by his sister, Sally Mitchell and her companion, Larry Souther, of Livermore Falls; his brothers, Kent Mitchell and his wife, Patty, of Jay and David Mitchell and his wife, Susan, of Farmington; and many loved cousins, nieces, nephews and an aunt and uncle.
