I write in support of John Cleveland for re-election to the state Senate from the district that includes Auburn and several surrounding towns.

I have known Cleveland since before he served as Auburn councilor from Ward 2, and later as Auburn mayor. I have been impressed by the obvious respect shown him by his colleagues, both in Auburn and Augusta.

I was particularly impressed by his work several years ago on the referendum to establish the Lewiston-Auburn College, which was successful despite the skepticism of a number of voters, including myself, who were not convinced that such a college in Lewiston would be successful.

I now know that he was right in putting his credibility on the line to get the referendum passed and the college established.

The voters in this Senate district are fortunate to have the opportunity to return such an experienced and effective legislator to the state Senate.
